There is little information floating about the vast compendiums of metal scattered around the Internet about Scandinavian black metallers Skald in Veum—and even less that is known to be true. However much mystery surrounds Skald in Veum is multiplied tenfold by their burning passion for fierce, hyper-dissonant black metal that is all the relentless cold and brutalizing deep-freeze of a deep Northern winter, but ablaze with the truest and most ferocious passion for vehement, vicious and dark metal of band from any corner of the world.
Skald in Veum are a dark and driving force with one mission: a violent and visceral baptism by way of complete immersion in infernal, brutalizing black metal. Tracing back the enigma that is Skald is a daunting task, and begins with a brief mention of the band in the credits and thanks section of 1998’sEternal Emperor EP by symphonic black metal act Crimson Moonlights. However, aside from acknowledgment of the band’s existence, little material exists to serve as proof of Skald’s early years—with the exception of a demo that was quickly written and even more quickly lost in the year that followed. After 1999, Skald in Veum entered hibernation, induced by the piercing cold of their surroundings and the immensely draining nature of their crushing breed of black metal. The slumbering Scandinavian juggernaut awoke—briefly—in 2007 to revive the weakening pulse of their local metal scene; then followed their return to slumber. Fast forward to 2013—Skald become known as they exist now, Skald in Veum (in Veum referring to in a Holy place) and are poised to dominate the faith-driven furiously dense black metal scene with their addition to Rottweiler Records’ roster. Skald in Veum exist for a simple purpose—baptism of the masses by intense and relentless metal, cutting through the hordes of the less-than-Holy with a keenly honed metallic blade forged in the frostiest and most barren winters earth has to offer, yet ablaze with unbridled passion and unrelenting energy. Skald in Veum are the purifying spirit of Christ, here to ignite the heavy music scene with the flame of eternal salvation—and they are set to do it through Rottweiler Records.
